David Stewart Klein's recent Residency in London

Artist David Stewart Klein has taken his career abroad again, this time with a 2.5 month residency in London making and exhibiting new artworks as he lived and explored the city and country. Klein has worked with several models making works of drawing, painting of photography which he intends on exhibiting in the fall of this year at his fifth solo exhibition in Los Angeles and onward in the future.

The third group exhibition he was in premiered on June 30th.

The opening was flooded with people and eyes and minds were challenged by the stunning portraits which were created from real life people. Klein had an interesting experience over that weekend as well, as there was a popular bi-annual Japanese market (Klein is a huge fan of Japanese culture) in the same neighborhood so many visitors came to the gallery and engaged in conversation about the work.

Helena’s Concern 2023

Watercolor and graphite on paper

Lucky You! Sally Jacobs is teaching Botanical Drawing/Watercolor at Brentwood Art Center this April

Botanical Drawing and Watercolor

Botanical art is a centuries old art form, originally used by naturalists to explain and document flora. Botanical work is quite separate from flower painting and landscapes, where the artist is free to interpret, change, and enhance the subject. In botanical art, the artist stays true to the plant, accurately communicating the structure and growth patterns.

In this class you’ll learn to draw and paint plants realistically and aesthetically, working with actual subjects. The drawing techniques focus on faithfully depicting form, value differences, and dimensionality. Drawing is an essential step before painting. In the watercolor sections of the class, you’ll practice color mixing, matching color, doing graduated washes, and adding detail.

Although it takes time to learn this approach, the journey is so pleasurable!
