SCWCA, recently on show at TAG Gallery in A Place at the Table, presents the film screening of Acting Like Women, a documentary about feminist performance art and the Woman’s Building in 1970s–80s Los Angeles.
The film has a special connection to SCWCA (The Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art), as it was directed and produced by SCWCA members: Cheri Gaulke, Director; Anne Gauldin, Co-Writer and Producer; and Meg Linton, Producer.
Through interviews, archival footage, and personal reflections, feminist artist Cheri Gaulke revisits the 1970s Los Angeles foundational art space, The Woman's Building, laying bare how a collective of artists transformed their bodies and voices in performance to a powerful tool for activism, reshaping the cultural landscape for generations of women. Talk Back in formation with Cheri Gaulke and Anne Gauldin.
The documentary will screen on Saturday, October 10 at 10:30am at Sony Studios in Culver City.
