LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With 28 years of experience and a brand and facilities refresh, TAG Gallery keeps the arts community alive and thriving on LA’s Miracle Mile. The gallery’s 2021 roster reflects Los Angeles’ diversity with each of the cooperative’s artists planning unique installations across multiple fine art disciplines.
“The magic of TAG,” asserts gallery president K Ryan Henisey, “is that we are a grassroots cooperative. With each new set of artists, TAG reshapes itself, reflecting the city around us. We also benefit from the shared knowledge within our group. Artists at TAG come from a range of backgrounds and careers. As a community, we use that expertise to promote each other and our fine art.”
TAG’s artists have a complete year of exhibitions planned, starting with Pam Douglas’ Sanctuary, January 20-February 13. Douglas’ work, inspired by global refugees, immerses visitors in a timely journey of loss and hope.
“Our artists include writers, doctors, designers, teachers, entrepreneurs, and more,” explains gallery vice president Scott Lewallen, known as the artist Sküt, “but each of us shares goals focused on art and the arts community. Our artists are especially primed after creating our 2021 scholarships to promote artist equity.”
Helmed by Henisey and Lewallen, TAG recently shifted direction to a heavily artist-driven annual schedule. Undaunted by the disastrous global effects of Covid-19, the artists at TAG continue to sponsor artists programs, professional development, and competitions. Leading into 2021, the cooperative created two scholarships, allowing additional entry points for artists.
“We’ve made a great deal of changes,” continues Henisey. “I’m proud of the great work our new teammates and artists have accomplished—from the big choices such as scholarships and our brand refresh to the small things that quickly add up such as the hours of labor each artist gave refreshing our galleries.”
An award-winning artist, Henisey (@kryanhenisey) is the founder of Pattern & Matrix, providing creative and PR services for artists and organizations. Henisey’s work has shown in galleries and institutions throughout California, the Garrotxa Museum in Spain, and most recently in Guangzhou, China.
Lewallen, aka Sküt (@inkedbyskut), is a year-long member of TAG and co-founder of Grindr. As a seasoned experience designer and creative director, he provides the gallery with a fresh take on driving fine art through technology. Lewallen and Henisey connected through the City of West Hollywood’s Arts Division for the 2018 WeHo in Paso shared-city exhibitions.
