Garth Everett
About
Garth started painting at a young age, selling paintings in a gallery while still in high school. He went on to the Burnley School of Art in Seattle where he won his class’s scholarship competition and had one of his gouache paintings accepted into the exclusive Northwest Watercolor Society. After college Garth became art director at the Thomas Advertising Group.
In 1980, Garth founded his own agency, Advertising Center in Redmond, WA. Clients included O’Brien Waterskis, Olympic Hotel, Weston Hotel, Icom, Ace Novelty and Matsushita. For over 15 years, Advertising Center was listed as one of the 20 Largest Ad Agencies in the Pacific Northwest. After selling the agency, Garth became the Marketing Director at Huntwood in Spokane, WA.
In 2000, he and his wife Roxanne started Everett Gallery, featuring nationally known artists as well as Garth’s paintings. Through the gallery, Garth also received several oil-on-canvas portrait commissions. In 2018 Garth retired early, and they had sold the gallery, freeing up more time for his art. He and Roxanne are now snowbirds, dividing their year between Coeur d’Alene, ID and Palm Desert, CA.
Artist Statement
I have spent my life drawing, designing, illustrating and painting; and have definitely exceeded Malcolm Gladwell’s famous “10,000 hours.” My oil on canvas painting style has been heavily influenced by great masters such as Johannes Vermeer and John Singer Sargent; as well as contemporaries like Howard Terpning and Steve Hanks.
I have been working to fine-tune my dark-to-light dry brush technique in order to create maximum depth and texture. My works celebrate the eternal beauties of light, shadow, form and design. I like combining figurative studies with elaborate backgrounds, often suggesting compelling back stories.
